What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?

CEREC same-day crowns are custom-designed and milled in-house by Dr. Ifraitekh. Instead of sending the digital impression off to a laboratory, where someone who has never laid eyes on your mouth will be responsible for designing your crown, our team will be able to do it using CAD/CAM software and our in-house milling machine. The best part is that patients will only have to come in for a single visit, where their tooth will be prepared and the crown will be placed all at once.CEREC same-day dentistry allows patients to receive high-quality crowns, inlays, onlays, and other restorations without the wait of traditional lab-made dental work. Using digital scanning and in-office milling technology, your restoration is carefully designed to match your natural tooth shape, colour, and bite. This approach is ideal for patients who want a strong, natural-looking restoration with fewer visits and a more comfortable experience.

The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown

The first step of the process will be to prepare your affected tooth by removing a small amount of enamel from it. This will allow the CEREC crown to fit perfectly atop the tooth, providing it with ample protection and support, as well as lay flush with other teeth so it doesn’t throw off your bite. Then, our team will take a digital impression of your tooth that we’ll be able to model your crown design off of.

Dr. Ifraitekh will oversee the design of your dental crown in Georgetown. Once it passes his inspection, we’ll send the design to our in-house milling machine, which will be loaded with a solid cube of dental porcelain. This block will be milled to resemble your dental crown design. After the milling process is complete, Dr. Ifraitekh will examine the restoration to make sure it’s the perfect shade and fit before permanently adhering it to your prepared tooth.

FAQ’s

CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns FAQs

CEREC isn’t just some nonsense word attached to certain crowns. On the contrary, it’s an acronym that describes the very nature of same-day restorations.

The word ‘CEREC’ stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” That phrase is a mouthful, but it basically just refers to how dentists craft and create same-day crowns. Each of these restorations is made “chairside” at a dental practice, using “esthetic ceramics” as the base material. That means a dentist can prepare and ready a same-day crown within a single dental visit

While it may seem like it demands a special patient, anybody who can get a lab-made crown can receive a CEREC one. The two types don’t demand different requirements from would-be candidates.

Put another way, CEREC crowns solve all the same problems lab-made crowns do. You can trust them to protect cracked and damaged teeth, hide cosmetic concerns like stains, and so on. A CEREC crown’s only major difference from other types is how it’s made; the cap itself still has the same uses.

Of course, you mustn’t take the facts above as automatic proof that you qualify for CEREC crowns. You should consult your dentist to get final confirmation.

While not as sturdy as metal ones, CEREC crowns are still fairly strong and durable. They offer the same level of protection as that of lab-made ceramic models.

Don’t forget: CEREC crowns are made from solid blocks of dental porcelain. The latter material not only looks like enamel, but it also has enough durability to withstand your bite. That means a CEREC crown can typically last for 10-15 years or so.

All that said, don’t take your CEREC crown’s durability for granted. Always maintain your restoration by practicing good oral hygiene, avoiding bad oral habits, etc.

As luck would have it, a CEREC crown won’t put you under any dietary restrictions. Its design ensures you can have all the same foods and drinks you’d normally enjoy.

It comes down to the fact that CEREC crowns are made quickly. Since you receive them in just one day, you don’t need to worry about using a temporary, non-durable restoration. You can instead rely on a strong and durable restoration from the get-go, one that can withstand basic day-to-day use.

Really, the only restrictions around CEREC crowns relate to accidents and injuries. You’ll want to protect your new cap from issues like teeth-grinding, falls, collisions, etc.
